So I went back to look at this site from which I had come across that gorgeous bathroom just below the "New E"... Not only does it sound COOL AS SHIT... "Inspired by the great estates and castles of Europe, the interiors are graced with rich tapestries, down-filled chaises, wrought iron detailing and impressive fireplaces" The photos on the site are amazing. That it specializes in fasting (i came across the bathtub in a Google Image search for "fasting") and is located an hour away from my current location in the world makes me laugh. I of course, must be destined to one day go... Help me pic a room... so amazing... I think my fav is still:
Suite 8 ~Queen bed, four~piece bath with rain shower, garden view & partial lake view with balcony

On Fasting

Great website for the low down on Fasting
"Fasting is the single greatest natural healing therapy. It is nature'’s ancient, universal 'remedy' for many problems. Animals instinctively fast when ill. When I first discovered fasting, 15 years ago, I felt as if it had saved my life and transformed my illnesses into health. My stagnant energies began flowing, and I became more creative and vitally alive. I still find fasting both a useful personal tool and an important therapy for many medical and life problems."

..."In other words, fasting is a multidimensional experience. Physiologically, refraining from eating minimizes the work done by the digestive organs, including the stomach, intestines, pancreas, gallbladder, and liver. Most important here is that our liver, our body’s large production and metabolic factory, can spend more time during fasting cleaning up and creating its many new substances for our use. Breakdown of stored or circulating chemicals is the basic process of detoxification. The blood and lymph also have the opportunity to be cleaned of toxins as all the eliminative functions are enhanced with fasting. Each cell has the opportunity to catch up on its work; with fewer new demands, it can repair itself and dump its waste for the garbage pickup. Most fasters also experience a new vibrancy of their skin and clarity of mind and body."

"Although the process of fasting may generate various results, depending on the individual condition of the faster, there are clearly a number of common metabolic changes and experiences. First, fasting is a catalyst for change and an essential part of transformational medicine. It promotes relaxation and energization of the body, mind and emotions, and supports a greater spiritual awareness. Many fasters feel a letting go of past actions and experiences and develop a positive attitude toward the present. Having energy to get things done and clean up old areas, both personal and environmental, without the usual procrastination is also a common experience. Fasting clearly improves motivation and creative energy; it also enhances health and vitality and lets many of the body systems rest."

So last year right after my birthday I did a four day fast. Kevin and I were living on Arnold and I decided I wanted to do an experimental 'fast' mainly because I never had before. It was a long four days but I found it to be not just cleansing, but incredibly interesting. It was interesting to note the different changes and feelings in my body and to note my mental feelings and how they were affected by the loss of food. Interesting to feel physical sensations so far and removed from my Westerner's knowledge base... to sample in the most miniscule of terms, the sensations experienced daily and without the sure knowledge of an end date nor option to cease, by millions of millions of citizens of the world.
I have decided to fast again this year and like very much the timing of beginning my fast on the first of November. I like the tradition of having a full and decadent Halloween followed by a four day cleansing period into winter and the beginning phases of a new year cycle. It is reminiscent in some strangely appealing (for an anti-religion girl such as myself) ritualistic manner, of Mardi Gras and Lent, and seems like a highly appropriate time for a fast. (I also like that the break fast falls on my dear sweet friend's birthday!)
I encourage all reading this to join me.

Sculpture by Erwin Wurm

A house has been 'dropped upside down' on the roof of the Viennese Museum of Modern Art.
The art project, entitled House-Attack by top local sculptor Erwin Wurm, is supposed to look as if the house has fallen out of the sky and landed on the famous museum in the centre of the Austrian capital."

koala's in a whole new light...

Koalas with grunt - ABC Science Online "Spring in eastern and southern Australia is the time to listen out for the bizarre sounds of male koalas looking for love. They may seem passive and sleepy, but come mating time, koalas morph into aggressive, smelly creatures that you'd never want to cuddle in a million years."

more stuff I like...

"The Firefly, Invented by Eric Goldfarb is a unique design which turns your bottle into a lantern. The Firefly's unique design allows it to be used right side up, upside down, or hanging from the nearest handy branch.

The unique lid design contains an integrated LED light which spreads a warm glow throughout the bottle. It has variable light levels so you can have a nightlight for stormy nights, or a reading light for enjoying your latest read; the control is at your finger tip! The electronics are in a separate sealed compartment, so there's no risk of water or juice gumming up the works! Compatible with all standard wide mouth bottles."

Binh Danh

"Danh has invented a technique for printing found photographs (digitally rendered into negatives) onto the surface of leaves by exploiting the natural process of photosynthesis. The leaves, still living, are pressed between glass plates with the negative and exposed to sunlight from a week to several months. Coined 'chlorophyll prints' by the artist, the fragile works are encapsulated and made permanent through casting them in solid blocks of resin."

a fugue you say?...

"Emotionally stung by an unexpected request for a divorce from her husband, Archibald Christie, Agatha disappeared for several days in 1926 and the newspapers of the era had a field day investigating the mystery surrounding where Christie could be. Not only had her husband astounded her by telling her that he was in love with another woman, Agatha had recently been devastated by the death of her beloved mother. She drove off in her Morris motor car and it was later found crashed in Yorkshire. For 11 days she was not seen by a living soul. It was later discovered that she was staying in a hotel in Harrogate in Northern England under an assumed name to escape what must have been a horrible emotional shock for her. The complete details of where she spent those 11 days have never been uncovered and Christie herself refused to talk about the incident or respond to any questions about whether she suffered from a case of amnesia or depression. A fictionalized account of this mysterious incident was dramatized in the 1979 film, Agatha, starring Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave."

The Observer- Christie's most famous mystery solved at last:
"In his study of the writer's life published this autumn, Norman uses medical case studies to show that Christie was in the grip of a rare but increasingly acknowledged mental condition known as a 'fugue state', or a period of out-of-body amnesia induced by stress. In effect, the writer was in a kind of trance for several days, he claims.
