ode to a Magni

Happy Birthday my sweet friend

Some facts on 'Magnus':

Origin and Meaning of Magnus: "The boy's name Magnus is pronounced MAG-ness. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is 'great.' A royal name in Norway and Denmark; also a saint's name. The name was introduced from Scandinavia to Scotland."

Charlemagne (742 or 747 – 28 January 814) (also Charles the Great; from Latin, Carolus Magnus), son of King Pippin the Short and Bertrada of Laon, was king of the Franks from 768 to 814 and king of the Lombards from 774 to 814. He was crowned Imperator Augustus in Rome on 25 December 800 by Pope Leo III and is therefore regarded as the first Holy Roman Emperor

Pompey, Pompey the Great or Pompey the Triumvir (Classical Latin: CN·POMPEIVS·CN·F·SEX·N·MAGNVS, Gnaeus or Cnaeus Pompeius Magnus) (September 29 106 BCSeptember 29 48 BC), was a distinguished military and political leader of the late Roman republic. Hailing from an Italian provincial background, he went on to establish a place for himself in the ranks of Roman nobility, and was given the cognomen of Magnusthe Great by Sulla.

Magnus is the vampire who sires the vampire Lestat in Anne Rice's novel The Vampire Lestat, the second book in The Vampire Chronicles.

The Magnus effect is the name given to the physical phenomenon whereby an object's rotation affects its path through a fluid, in particular, air. It is a product of various phenomena including the Bernoulli effect and the formation of boundary layers in the medium around moving objects.
